Oceanographic & ecological consulting
Marine site characterisation, habitat mapping and seabed biodiversity surveys, sampling survey design & execution, environmental monitoring and management planning for coastal and offshore environments.
Ocean physics, mathematical modelling, and quantitative data science to interpret complex ceanographic and atmospheric datasets.
Science-based consulting that combines our modelling and ecology skills to support sustainable growth of NZ's aquaculture sector. We can do site suitability evaluations, structure design evaluations (OrcaFlex), deposition modelling, carrying capacity & ecological effect assessments and more.
We can also partner with you to add capacity or capability to your existing project team; from planning & logistics and field support to data science and modelling. Subcontracted to your needs for any type of project.
A core team of two, plus trusted collaborators we can bring in for bigger projects.
Oceanographer & data scientist
My background is in physics, modelling, and data science and I have worked across these fields for the past ten years. I use both measured data and mathematical models to make inferences about the behaviour of things in the ocean, and the ocean itself.
I've worked on a diverse range of projects in the past including environmental effect modelling for aquaculture, determining the probabilistic spread of marine invasive species, developing engineering models for underwater structures (OrcaFlex), and optimising habitat restoration efforts.
I am familiar with New Zealand's regulatory framework and have been an expert witness at resource consent hearings.
Marine ecologist
I enjoy research that applies environmental data with species ecology to facilitate sustainable growth, particularly in fisheries and aquaculture. I have 15+ years experience in marine science research and consulting in the coastal and offshore marine environment, mainly in the fields of seabed, water column and marine mammal ecology.
My specialisations are seabed biodiversity and health assessments, benthic and water column environmental management, nutrient enrichment dynamics related to finfish aquaculture, as well as research supporting growth of the shellfish aquaculture sector. I also have a strong interest in the revival of NZ's scallops, and ecosystem-based fisheries management.
I'm interested in the challenge of new-to-me projects, and enjoy all aspects of project management and delivery. I want to craft pragmatic science solutions that deliver what you need.

After appreciating 25 combined years at major science institutions, it came time for change. We now science independently alongside our dairy farm contracting. This setup gives us the security and autonomy to focus on an agile and streamlined workflow that provides good value data-driven marine science insights.
